Cafer Gürcafer, President of the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association (CTBCA), stated that the dues for the tenders originating from Turkey are not paid to the contractor and added, “This business has now become a complete disgrace.”
Stating that, “It is as if someone is trying to systematically ruin us,” CTBCA President Cafer Gürcafer said:
“Dues for tenders originating from Turkey for both last year and this year, are not paid to the contractor. This business has now become a complete disgrace. The TRNC is blaming this on Turkey, Turkey on the TRNC, but in the end, the money is not paid.
The system we face and the situation we are in is that the Turkish Lira, which depreciated against the other currencies, does not cover our loss. The cost difference is paid to the contractor who arrives from Turkey and builds roads and completes other works, but we are not paid this cost difference in any way, nor are we paid the principal owed. It is as if someone is systematically trying to ruin us. If anyone claims that the situation is not so, they should also explain why this has befallen us. Enough is enough, this is getting tiresome.”
